piedmont one mic acoustic convention

In conjunction with the town of Franklinville, NC, and the Piedmont Old Time Society.

Friday, May 3rd - Sunday May 5th, 2019

The Piedmont One Mic Acoustic Convention (POMAC) is a small music festival dedicated to… acoustic music.

Seriously, we love acoustic music of all kinds. Unlike many festivals we don’t divide acoustic music into “old-time” and “bluegrass”. We’re all long-time attendees to festivals and some of our favorite moments are the late-night jams where we hear acoustic jazz, old-time, bluegrass, cajun, Klezmer and Piedmont Blues. The POMAC festival is also dedicated to excellent musicianship. To this end, our festival requires performers, including bands to play into one microphone with no monitors (we may sneak an extra mic on the stage for bass players, but don’t count on it). The POMAC festival is also run by long-time musicians that have competed in festivals. We both love and hate competitions and have created POMAC to accentuate the positive aspects of fiddle competitions. For example, we don’t have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, we honor three exemplary performances per category. This allows us to recognize great performers and performances while still retaining some objectivity. We’ve also worked hard on creating scoring systems that are objective. As musicians, we also know that sometimes constructive feedback is valuable, so we offer constructive feedback for each performer should they care to take it. Many of us are educators and know that youth competitions are important. We’ve taken great care to create a youth competitions that are objective and offer positive feedback.
